A true Mid Century Modern in La Jolla
Mid Century modern homes are not just reminiscent of one of the most dynamic and strong design styles but also of how evolution in design has kept them universally relevant through hundreds of years. Its like owning a piece of history and keeping it alive and relevant forever,
We recently staged this inherently beautiful 1967 home in La Jolla surrounded with amazing views from an architecture built around the views and vicinity.
The sprawling living room looked into the ocean and stood tall at a majestic height.
Strategy: We brought in auburns, burn orange to reflect the fall season and highlight the warm wooden ceilings, The sun poured in with lots of natural light embracing warm colors in the design palette.
Our spiral lamps in dark mahogany wood complemented the beams and spoke of history.
Expansive windows are a highlight in many mid century homes and we wanted open space for buyers to walk right upto them.
This architectural style features and thrives on shapes and form: Incorporating elements such as the curved lines boucle sofa was a key part of our curation.
Highlighting Simplicity
The architecture of the home sprawled two floors allowing interesting areas such as this hallway to be showcased for their strength. I would totally sit here and have my morning coffee (in peace) and look into the blues of the water.
Mid-century modern homes often feature layouts that enhance flow and connectivity between spaces.
We picked our unique custom bench - Sevilla with abundance in shape and form as perfect for this spot. The geometric patterned large artwork elevated this space
Flat Planes, Angular Forms and diverse floor plans
The architecture tends to emphasize horizontal lines, giving a sense of simplicity and spaciousness. Mid-century modern homes often feature open layouts. This open room beneath a stairway was a great space to define another living area or game room.
While the overall palette may lean towards neutral hues, bold patterns, geometry and vibrant colors are often used as accents,Designs and pieces renowned in the mid-century era serve as focal points and conversation starters. Whats totally unique to this style is that while a lot of transitional, traditional style pieces go out of style and look dated - mid mod styles are still relevant today.
The Serenity bedroom
The bedroom was a respite of calm and serenity nestled among the trees. A low-profile platform bed in teak serves as a focal point, Lamps and nighstands featuring geometric profiles complements the overall aesthetic. Keeping the arrangement uncluttered, allowed for an open flow that enhances the room's feel. The warm grey chairs with taper legs are a perfect spot to enjoy the sun.
Layered texture and bedding in solid colors with a muted yet bold paletter is something we kept alive through the house.
Select iconic mid-century furniture pieces with tapered legs and minimalist designs. A low-profile platform bed in rich walnut or teak serves as a focal point, while a sleek dresser or nightstands featuring geometric profiles complements the overall aesthetic. Keep the furniture arrangement spacious and uncluttered, allowing for an open flow that enhances the room's airy feel.
Layered Textiles
Incorporate layered textures with a soft area rug, perhaps in a geometric or abstract pattern, to anchor the space. Use luxurious bedding in solid colors or subtle prints to evoke comfort, and accentuate with decorative pillows in varied shapes and fabrics—think velvet, linen, or cotton. A plush throw can offer warmth and invite relaxation.
