Kensington Charmer
Kensington is a charming neighborhood in San Diego, that was established around the 1920s. It is known for its California Spanish and Craftsman architectural styles. What the local residents like to call “the only real neighborhood in San Diego”, Kensington is known for its lovely charm, its sense of community, and idyllic town center.
We recently did a home stage in this neighborhood for our client partner Brett Farwell, that we call our Kensington Charmer.
What we were immediately struck with when we entered this home was all of the natural light coming in through the windows, the beautiful wood floors, and the bright white walls. The fireplace had just been refinished with a brand new tile that brought a contemporary feel to this Spanish style / Craftsman home. In the living room, we wanted a complementary neutral palette of grays to play against the updated tile fireplace; and add a pop of color to the wall with a striking piece of original art. Our goal with this stage was to highlight the windows, natural light, and showcase the fireplace as a focal point. We also wanted to to keep the flow of traffic seamless, and we showcased that in the positioning of the furniture.
Living Room
In the kitchen and dining, we wanted to create a moment that any entertainer would be inspired by. We did this by positioning the dining room table just off of the kitchen space, and creating a seating area with couches and chairs just outside of the bar counter. We could see people spending a lot of time in this corner of the home, and wanted to showcase the vision of providing ample seating where a large gathering could take place, but allow everyone to have a place to sit back, and relax.
Kitchen and Dining
We loved getting playful with the detached third bedroom that we staged as a guest suite. With a separate entrance and open floorplan, we wanted to maintain the light and airy feel that this space exuded, so we brought in fun artwork, colorful pillows, and a pop of color through the wall tapestry and yellow throw. We also wanted to showcase the multi-functionality of this room, and so we decided to set up a writers desk in the corner, with a gorgeous nautical rope lamp.
Guest Suite
Our clients overall desires were to let the Spanish architectural style of the home to shine, while also bringing in a contemporary feel for the modern day buyer. We think we hit the nail on the head, do you agree?
