Modern Meets Retro In This Hillcrest Home

Working in the home staging industry is such an interesting thing, especially here in San Diego where home styles vary so widely. One day we will be staging a luxury coastal home, the next a modern townhouse, and then a Spanish-style hacienda. The styles are truly endless and the reason that we at BlueGrape do carry such a diverse inventory of home pieces.

This past month we had the opportunity to work on a newly renovated home in the heart of the trendy Hillcrest neighborhood. While we do often stage a lot of flipped homes this project was truly unique. The owner paid specific attention to the quality and style of every detail in this home and it truly shows. What we loved most about the house was the mix of a modern layout and architecture with some very cool retro finishes and touches. Some of these included cork flooring on the second level of the home, a minimal black & white brick fireplace, and pops of blue-tone tiles in the bathrooms. With this modern-meets-retro vibe in mind, we went to work!

We started with more minimal and modular large pieces including a white modular sectional to welcome you into the living room which was mirrored in the backyard with similar lounge seating to enjoy the views. For the decor accents, we stuck to a natural color palette and textures, including elements of leather and wood along with neutral colors. All of these little details are so important when it comes to staging a home and we are always sure that each item ties into each other to create a consistent look and feel.

In the dining area, we included mid-century modern style dining chairs to tie in the funky aesthetic and kept the table minimal to balance the space. We loved the wood built-in just off the kitchen and our chairs and dining table matched perfectly with the stain color. Finally, we balanced off the space with some artwork and greenery to bring in the natural elements of the home.

Upstairs in the primary bedroom, we decided to tie in their pops of turquoise and blue with a blue denim bed frame. We felt that this really added a pop to the main bedroom and matched the home’s overall retro aesthetic. The cork flooring in this room was such a fun touch and really brought out the organic nature of the home.

Throughout the house, the decor was kept fairly minimal but included bold pops of color as well as natural elements, all to stay consistent with the home’s character. From the moment you pulled into the driveway this home felt unique and down to every last detail we wanted it to stay that way.
