Designing the Living Areas
The main living and dining room features charming built-in shelves for which the design team handpicked accessories, considering the popular 1950s architecture and Googie-style. Centered around the rock fireplace, we chose comfortable furnishings with a modern touch and unique architectural elements, tying in the home’s theme. The boucle texture benches feature two uniquely shaped legs inspired by the blend of the clean lines of the mid-century era and today’s modern textures. In the dining room, we chose a natural wood table to complement the paneling and cupboards and accented the walls with oversized geometric artwork to bring the space to life.
Defining the Outdoors
The backyard was one of our favorite features of this home. With a sprawling lap pool and relaxing energy from the landscaping, the space felt like an oasis blocks from the busy downtown of La Jolla shores. Our designers handpicked natural furniture that encouraged relaxation, with comfortable lounge seating and daybeds for soaking up some sunshine.
Contrast, Texture, and Uniqueness
In the second living area we brought in a black sideboard with dull gold brassy trims to contrast the wood panelling. It was a perfect opportunity to showcase another way to redesign this beautiful home. The a-line redwood chairs with the rich panel upholstered couch blended in the old and new again to compliment this mid-century modern home design in La Jolla, San Diego. The bar stools were custom-made as a BlueGrape exclusive. This collection sources unique pieces from all over the world to help style across architectural styles and bring the best new, unique designs to the staging world.
Overall, this home had many unique elements that influenced our staging and allowed us to bring in one of our favorite trends from this spring. From the original flooring and fixtures all the way down to the pink bathrooms and even the original light switches! Projects like this are so much fun for our team because they allow us to lean into the history and make styles that were once old, new again!
