5 Design Trends for Summer 2021

What’s hot this summer!

With June gloom behind us and a long weekend ahead, summer has officially kicked off! People are excited to gather again whether it be for open houses, house warming parties, or just a backyard BBQ and I am here to give you some design inspiration to transfer your quarantine-coziness into a summer oasis.

1. Colors that make you smile

It is time to embrace all the things that make you happy. No more shying away from bright shades, invite those bold colors into your space. Summer is the season of fun so if there was ever a time to embrace color it would be now. Personally, I love a pop of cobalt blue or a fiery orange but this trend is all about what sparks joy for you, so pick your favorite! We recently styled a secondary seating area in a home office with chartreuse accent chairs and it brought a whole new life to the room. And peep the bright purple vase among the other neutral decor pieces on the shelf. These unexpected colors grab your attention and create a joyful ambiance.

2. Wanderlust inspired artwork

I think we can all agree that we are excited to travel again, but booking a plane ticket for a trip across the world may not be possible. My solution has been to fill my home with artwork from around the world. Images like rugged coasts or famous city landmarks give us a sense of wonder in our daily lives at home. So if summer vacation isn’t in the cards this year then maybe a piece of artwork to inspire it is.

3. Natural elements

Longer, brighter days are here, so open those blinds and let some sunshine fill your home. One trend that will probably never go out of style is a more natural look and feel. This could be anything from wood and stone furniture pieces to more house plants and greenery. Natural touches will give your space a welcoming vibe that feels calming. Spaces like this are easy and enjoyable to spend time in and things like house plants have even been linked to mental health benefits.

4. Outdoor living spaces

While we are on the topic of relaxing natural spaces, let’s talk about your outdoor living space! This is an area of your home you should focus on this summer. Dress up your patio, backyard, or rooftop with some comfortable seating, simple dining, and minimal decor touches. I love the look of a clean white couch and accent pillows. And since we are choosing colors that make us smile this season, pick something bold and totally you for the accents!

5. Cook up something home-y

With all the rooms in a home to think about styling one that I am focusing on this summer is the kitchen. As someone who spends a lot of time in my kitchen cooking and baking, I always want it to look and feel clean and welcoming. Some special touches that I see being a big hit this summer are exposed shelving with styled glassware, coffee bars with a Nespresso, unique barstools for socializing, and oversized islands.

So tell us, what is inspiring your summer design this year?
